There are no hard rules in makeup, but some colors make your eyes look more intense. The trick is color theory: opposite or complementary shades create contrast and make your natural color pop.
Brown eyes
Lucky you! Almost everything works. Golds, bronzes, coppers and deep purples add warmth and depth. For something bold, try navy blue as a liner.
Green eyes
Reddish and purple tones are your friends: burgundy, plum, mauve and rose copper make green look brighter. Warm browns also work great for daytime.
Blue eyes
Warm, orange-based shades like peach, terracotta, bronze and champagne make blue shine. Soft browns are perfect for an everyday look.
Hazel eyes
It depends on which color you want to bring out. Olive greens and purples highlight the green flecks; golds and bronzes bring out the brown.
How to choose your palette
- Look for a palette that mixes mattes for transition with metallic or glitter shades for the lid.
- If you're starting out, a warm neutral palette works for day and night.
- Colorful palettes are great for party looks or experimenting.
Bonus tip
Apply a transition shade in your crease, your main color on the lid and a touch of highlighter on the inner corner. That's a complete look in minutes.
