In Puerto Rico, Florida and anywhere hot and humid, makeup has two enemies: sweat and your skin's natural oil. The good news is that with the right prep and a few changes to your routine, your look can last much longer.
1. Prep skin with less product
Wash with a gentle cleanser and use a light, gel-type moisturizer. In humid weather, very rich creams make foundation slide. Let it absorb for a few minutes before moving on.
2. Don't skip sunscreen
Choose a lightweight or matte-finish formula and let it set. It's the most important step to protect your skin from the Caribbean sun.
3. Primer where you get shiny
You don't need primer all over. Apply it to your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin), where oil builds up the most.
4. Thin layers, not thick ones
A heavy layer of foundation cracks and moves with sweat. Apply a little and build only where you need it. Long-wear or matte formulas usually hold up better in the heat.
5. Set with powder and spray
Use translucent powder under your eyes and on your T-zone. Finish with a setting spray to lock everything together.
6. Eyes and lips that don't budge
Use waterproof liner and mascara. On lips, long-wear formulas last longer; if you prefer shine and hydration, keep your lip oil in your bag for touch-ups.
7. Touch up without adding layers
During the day, blot away shine with blotting paper first, then add a little powder if needed. That way product doesn't build up.
