If you've ever wondered why your body mist fades faster than your perfume, the answer is fragrance concentration. Here are the differences.
What is a body mist?
A light spray with a low fragrance concentration. It feels fresh and soft, and you can reapply it several times a day. Many can be used on hair too.
What is a perfume?
Perfumes have a higher concentration of aromatic oils. From lowest to highest: eau de cologne, eau de toilette (EDT), eau de parfum (EDP) and parfum or extrait. More concentration usually means more intensity and longer wear.
When to use each
- Body mist: for the gym, the beach, hot days or when you want something soft.
- Perfume: for going out, events or when you want your scent to last longer.
How to make it last longer
- Apply on moisturized skin: lotion helps hold the scent.
- Spray on pulse points: wrists, neck and behind the ears.
- Don't rub your wrists together; it breaks down the notes.
- Store fragrances away from sun and heat, like the bathroom or your car.
The layering trick
Use a mist and a perfume with similar notes (for example, two vanilla scents, or a fruity mist with a floral perfume). Mist on your body first, then perfume on pulse points.
